8cento APS, in close collaboration with the Civic Museum of the Risorgimento in Bologna, carries out the 24th edition of the Gran Ballo dell'Unità d'Italia on Saturday 12 September 2020 from 17.00 to 20.00 in Carducci square, according to new modalities dictated by the Covid-19 emergency.
The dancers-reenactors of 8cento APS, together with the reenactors of the Estense Battalion, will re-enact the Dance Party which was organized in Bologna following the request of General Garibaldi for the collection of one million rifles to support the enterprise of the Thousand, volunteers leaving for Sicily.
Unlike past editions, the Ball will take place with six living Paintings over the entire surface of the square. For the spectators there is a path through the paintings, with quota entries every 15 minutes from the Museum side, from 5 to 7 pm. Piazza Carducci thus becomes a large open-air museum. The duration of the show is about an hour. The tour will end inside the Monumental Garden, with a visit to the monument dedicated to Giosue Carducci, in which Giuseppe Garibaldi is depicted inside a bas-relief entirely dedicated to the Risorgimento.
In case of bad weather, the Gran Ballo dell'Unità d'Italia will take place on Sunday 13 September, in the same way.
Participation is free but with reservations required (maximum 15 people every 15 minutes).
Obligatory mask for the entire duration of the event. Booking is possible:
